The primary resource in the well of knowledge is this book. It provides information and examples for healthy food choices, essential movement, and clean and green living practices all designed to improve your wellness.
There is so much information on health, nutrition, weight loss, and exercise that it is overwhelming. It’s coming at you from all angles and from many people. Who’s right? Who’s not? It’s hard to know, but one thing for sure: if it’s quick and easy, it’s not a permanent solution, it’s a temporary fix at best. MyTendWell is about creating permanent behavior change that will give you the healthy life skills to carry you through life, living and teaching others a wellness lifestyle.
Food for Thought from the Well of Knowledge
Fats (lipids and oils): Fats are an essential component of our diet. Dietary fat is our source for linoleic and linolenic acids (omega-6 and omega-3, respectively), which are needed for growth as well as healthy skin. Fat, or adipose tissue, is also important in protecting our internal organs. Importantly, fat helps with the absorption, transportation, and storing of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. (See table 5.1 for classification of fats.)
Carbohydrates are the primary source of fuel for the muscle contractions we perform. Carbs, previously were classified into two groups, simple and complex. Today, these are referred to as nonstarches and starches (or fibers), respectively. (See table 5.2 for classification of carbohydrates.)
